Housing Wellness
Program Overview
The Honoring Ancestors, Securing Futures Initiative is a specialized, culturally responsive housing and wellness program dedicated to addressing the critical, disproportionate rates of housing instability and unique systemic challenges faced by highly underserved populations: Native Veterans, 2Spirit/LGBTQIA+ Veterans of Color, Tribal Elders, and Seniors (aged 55+).
We believe that dignity, respect, and cultural connection are fundamental human rights. This program provides not just safe and affordable housing, but a holistic ecosystem of supportive services designed to foster stability, health, and a profound sense of belonging for individuals who have dedicated their lives to service or community leadership.
The Communities We Serve
Our program is uniquely focused on serving individuals who often face layered discrimination and barriers within traditional housing and veteran services. We recognize the importance of intersectionality in creating effective, targeted support.
| Community Group | Priority Needs Addressed |
| Native Veterans | Combating disproportionate rates of homelessness, historical trauma, and lack of culturally relevant care within federal systems. |
| 2Spirit/LGBTQIA+ Veterans of Color | Providing a safe haven free from gender and sexual orientation discrimination, addressing housing insecurity often linked to identity and race. |
| Tribal Elders & Seniors (55+) | Ensuring dignified, accessible housing and combating isolation, while honoring their generational wisdom and connection to community and land. |
Core Pillars of Service
Safe, Stable, and Affordable Housing
We provide clean, high-quality, long-term housing solutions, ranging from emergency transitional housing to permanent supportive housing, all managed with transparency and accountability. Our facilities prioritize accessibility, safety, and are maintained as culturally safe spaces where residents can live with dignity and security.
Culturally Informed Wellness and Care
Recognizing the diverse cultural backgrounds of our residents, our support staff and partners are trained in trauma-informed and culturally specific care. This includes:
- Cultural Connection: Access to healing practices, language preservation resources, and dedicated space for traditional ceremonies for Native and Tribal residents.
- Identity-Affirming Care: Staff adherence to best practices and ongoing training for supporting the specific needs and identities of 2Spirit/LGBTQIA+ Veterans of Color.
- Elder Care: Specialized services focusing on geriatric needs, mobility, and preventing social isolation.
Comprehensive Resource Navigation
We actively bridge the gap between residents and essential benefits. Our team works one-on-one with individuals to ensure they access:
- VA benefits, healthcare, and pensions.
- Tribal resources and enrollment assistance.
- Food security, transportation, and utility assistance.
- Mental health and substance use disorder services provided by culturally attuned partners.
Economic Empowerment and Digital Inclusion
To foster long-term independence, we provide tailored training and resources focused on modern financial and digital literacy, ensuring residents can manage their assets and connect with the contemporary world. This includes:
- Financial Stability: Workshops on budgeting, debt management, accessing secure banking services, identity theft prevention, and building/repairing credit.
- Digital Literacy: Access to computers and internet, training in secure digital communication for telehealth and family connections, utilizing online government/VA portals, and mastering basic computer skills.
Community and Peer Support
The program facilities are designed to be vibrant community hubs. We facilitate peer-support groups, inter-generational mentorship opportunities, and collective activities that reinforce social networks and combat the pervasive issue of loneliness and isolation among veterans and seniors.
Our Vision
We envision a future where every Native Veteran, 2Spirit/LGBTQIA+ Veteran of Color, Tribal Elder, and Senior has access to permanent, respectful housing and the supportive resources needed to thrive. By addressing the deep-seated inequities in housing access, we are not just providing shelter—we are building stronger, healthier communities founded on honor, cultural respect, inclusion, and resilience.
